Sailing Surf Dory Launch

Every so often we get a call from Pam Bates at Lowell's Boat Shop to photograph a new boat launch. In this case the boat is an 18' sailing surf dory on its trial run in the Merrimack River. Lowell's master boatbuilder, Graham McKay (right), inspects the sail rigging on this maiden voyage as Jonathan Van Campen, owner and builder of the Ninth Wave, mans the tiller. The boat will be shipped to Alaska for a voyage along the Inside Passage to Seattle planned for later this year.
